BMI Option packages

It’s never been easier to access the high quality of care and treatment available at a BMI hospital. If you choose to pay for your own treatment our “Option” packages provide an easy route to affordable fixed price surgery. You can also apply for your own personal payment card, the BMI Card.
 
Option packages include

All hospital charges incurred during your stay that are related to your reason for admission, including:  

    -  Accommodation

    -  Patient meals

    -  Theatre and nursing care

    -  Tests, drugs and dressings

    -  Physiotherapy

    -  Consultant operating fees

Take home drugs for up to five days, or antibiotics for the prescribed period.

One post-operative consultation if required.

The removal of stitches, dressings or plaster by the hospital, if required.

Option packages do NOT include

    -  Outpatient consultations before your admission

    -  Diagnostic investigations and tests before your admission

    -  Personal charges such as visitor meals and telephone calls

No extra charges will be made by the hospital if you stay longer than anticipated if this is due to a clinical reason related to the stated procedure.

No extra charges will be made by the hospital for any tests or treatment arising within 30 days of your discharge from hospital that, in the opinion of your consultant, are directly related to the stated procedure.

Full details of what is included in your Option package will be confirmed in a written quotation. Please read below for details of the Option terms and conditions.

The package:
1. Includes
Before your admission i. Preoperative assessment before admission, if necessary.
During your hospital stay ii. Hospital accommodation and meals.

iii. Nursing care and facilities.

iv. Theatre fees, drugs and dressings.

v. High Dependency Unit and/or Intensive Care Unit if required.

vi. Consultants' fees.

vii. Prosthesis.

viii. Imaging, physiotherapy, pathology and histology.
After your discharge ix. Take-home drugs for up to 5 days after discharge and antibiotics for the
prescribed period.

x. One postoperative consultation if required by your consultant (unless otherwise indicated in the written quotation).

xi. Removal of stitches, dressings or plaster if required.
 
2. Excludes
  i. Diagnostic tests or services received prior to your preoperative assessment or admission, whichever is first.

ii. Convalescence and treatment provided after your consultant has advised that you are fit for discharge.

iii. Personal costs such as telephone, alcoholic drinks, newspapers and visitor's meals.

iv. Medication prescribed after you have been discharged from the hospital (other than take home drugs mentioned above).

v. Ambulance fees.

vi. Any cost not specified as included.
 

Admission

3. The hospital reserves the right to refuse the admission of a patient for any reason.

4. The hospital reserves the right to determine the date of admission of the patient and, if necessary, change the date of admission. Prior notice will be given, whenever possible, should your admission date need to changed.

5. Costs incurred that are not included in the package price will be charged at the hospital's standard rates.

Discharge

6. The decision as to whether you are fit for discharge rests with your consultant. Should you wish to stay in hospital after you have been declared fit for discharge the hospital's standard charges will apply and will be invoiced separately.

7. If you discharge yourself against the advice of your consultant no further services will be provided as part of the package.

8. No refund will be given if you leave the hospital earlier than expected.

Complications

9. The package covers the cost of any related conditions or complications that become apparent within 30 days of discharge from the hospital following the procedure, provided:

  1. Such conditions or complications are treated at the hospital; and
  2. That you have followed the advice of your consultant and other medical professionals involved in your treatment. The decision as to whether a condition or complication is related to the procedure rests with your consultant.

10. Any related medical condition that arises during your stay will be managed until you are fit for discharge from an acute care hospital, at no extra cost.

Outpatient services

11. Outpatient services included in the package must be received at the hospital where you had your operation.

Written Quotation

12. Your consultant and their secretarial staff do not have authority from the hospital to quote for hospital charges. Any price mentioned by them is subject to written confirmation by the hospital.

13. This package is only available when you have obtained and accepted a written quotation from the hospital prior to admission.

14. The quoted price for the package is valid for a period of sixty days from the date of issue. A booking for the surgery must be made within this period.

15. The quotation is subject to change depending on the results of your pre- operative assessment. The hospital reserves the right to withdraw the quoted price at any time prior to surgery.

Consultant's fees

16. All consultants are self-employed and provide their services direct to the patient.

17. The consultants' fees are included in the quoted price and the hospital acts as their agent in the collection of them. On rare occasions the consultants and the hospital may invoice you separately but the total will not be more than that shown on the quotation.

Payment

18. Payment may be made using most credit and debit cards, or the BMI Card. Cash or cheques are accepted by prior arrangement.

19. Payment must be made in full prior to or on admission. The hospital reserves the right to refuse admission to a patient who has not paid in full.
